Hollister. She was 89.

Mrs. Nunes was born in Hanford and attended San Jose schools. She had lived in Hanford and Lemoore and left Hanford in 1944, but continued to visit family and friends there. She was a homemaker for 74 years and enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings and was always willing to take friends on their errands. Her family said she was a good listener to whom people of all ages would go for advice, particularly her grandchildren.

Nunes was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hollister, SPRSI, the Luso American Association and a Franciscan Sisters Associate, and belonged to the Sacred Heart Church prayer group, which visited people in their homes.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Carl S. and Barbara Nunes of Hollister and Lionel F. Nunes and Araceli Mendez of Morgan Hill; grandchildren Steve (Debra) Nunes of Morgan Hill, Cynthia (Chip) Carin of Morgan Hill, Josue and Juan Mendez of Morgan Hill, Craig (Connie) Nunes of Mountain View, Vicky Nunes of Los Gatos, Deborah Nunes of Hollister, Benjamin Nunes of Oklahoma and Callie Nunes of Oklahoma; great-grandchildren Ryan, Alex, Maison, Miranda, Candice, Melissa and Mary Nunes; Christopher, Jonathan and Erica Carin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nunes was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Nunes, in 1976, and her granddaughter, Susan Nunes.

Visitation will be Wednesday after 9 a.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home in Hollister. The Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, proceeding to Sacred Heart Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery in Santa Clara. Memorials are preferred to Hospice, or spiritual bouquets (masses) are preferred.
