local boy who shot for the stars and achieved so much.

I want to applaud the Morgan Hill Times for highlighting the amazing accomplishments of Nick Nilmeyer, our local boy who shot for the stars and achieved so much. It is a shame that so many will only know about this amazing young man and his success after he died. My son and I felt that while the article was well done and timely, it was also somewhat misleading. By quoting someone who had known Nick briefly many years ago, the impression was given that it was difficult to find someone who actually new him personally in town. I would like to correct this impression by saying that friends of Nick flew in from around the country to honor him this weekend in a service that was attended by more than 1,000 people. Many of his longtime friends and classmates spent the weekend celebrating his life and mourning the fact that they will miss him so much. Many admired and loved him.
I hope that some of Nick’s friends can share special memories of the person Nick was with the readers of the Times so that, along with his accomplishments, people will appreciate that Nick was loved for himself.
