This letter is in response to the letter to the editor in the Aug. 21 edition written by Kelley Lamsens. I understand why Bryan Scopazzi would not want to see Fahrenheit 9/11 and I think it was wrong of his ex-girlfriend to take him.

That movie not only makes Bush look like an inconsiderate president incapable of taking care of his country, it also makes our men and women serving look like killers.

Here is a quote from Sgt. Peter Damon, “The whole movie makes soldiers look like a bunch of idiots … I’m not a child. We sent ourselves over there” as volunteers for a cause … “It was all our own doing. I don’t appreciate him calling us children.”

Which leads me to the point that Bush sent willing men and women to fight this war. He did not blindly send them without cause or warrant. He understood there to be a significant threat against America. I would expect anybody in his situation to protect us as well as he has.

I don’t believe people like Bryan are being narrow-minded or pertinacious. He simply knows what is true and what is false. Anybody who sees a blatant attack on America should protest it whole-heartedly, not embrace it because we don’t want to be judgmental or intolerant or hurt anyone’s feelings.

I also want to comment on Fahrenheit 9/11 being a documentary. You are right on one account Kelley, the definition of documentary. Now let me give you the definition of deceive: To ensnare or mislead; to lead into error or sin. To cause to believe the false, or disbelieve the truth. Moore encompasses the entire meaning of the word deceiver, which means one who deceives; one who leads into error; a cheat; impostor.

Real lives are at stake in the war. Anybody who knows what war is about knows that, but the goal we are trying to attain is to liberate Iraqi people; not send American soldiers to their death.

Here are some facts to prove that we are winning this war: More than 400,000 Iraqi kids have up-to-date immunizations; school attendance is up 80 percent; over 1,500 schools have been renovated and rid of weapons stored there; over 4.5 million people have clean drinking water for the first time; the country now receives two times the electrical power it did before the war; 100 percent of the hospitals are open and fully staffed, compared to 35 percent before the war; over 80,000 Iraqi soldiers are patrolling the streets side by side with U.S. soldiers; and much more.

About the mother who lost her son, the family of U.S. Air Force Maj. Gregory Stone was infuriated to learn that video footage of the major’s Arlington National Cemetery burial was included in the movie. “It’s been a big shock, and we are not very happy about it, to say the least,” Kandi Gallagher, Stone’s aunt and family spokeswoman, tells Washington Times reporter Audrey Hudson.

“We are furious that Greg was in that casket and cannot defend himself, and my sister, Greg’s mother, is just beside herself,” Gallagher said. “She is furious. She called him a ‘maggot that eats off the dead’.”

I deeply appreciate all that our men and women in uniform have done for us and I hope to see all of this hatred towards them and the war end. If anyone wants to “get educated and informed,” I suggest looking beyond Moore’s lies for the truth.
