Martinez – This past weekend the Silicon Valley Express, a local travel baseball team, ventured to Martinez to play in the USSSA sanctioned, “September to Remember” tournament. Led by tournament MVP Jack Ross, the Silicon Valley Express competed against teams from Rohnert Park, Alameda and Turlock.
During pool play on Saturday, the Express managed to remain undefeated with a win and a tie, securing the second seed for Sunday’s playoff round. In the playoffs its win or be eliminated and win is what the Express did.
In the first of two games on Saturday, the Express played The Islanders from Alameda and posted a convincing 10-2 victory. They followed that up with an extra inning thriller that ended in a 4-4 tie against the North Bay Bombers of Rohnert Park.
Sunday’s playoff round set up a matchup between the Express and the third-seeded Sonoma County Legends of Rohnert Park, which after six hard fought innings ended in a 4-3 win for the Express. That sent them to the championship game and set up rematch with the team that they tied a day earlier.
It was obvious at the start of the championship game that it may not be a pitchers duel as both teams scored regularly in the first three innings, leaving the score 6-4 Bombers after three.
However, the rest of the game, through clutch pitching and timely hitting, only Express players would cross the plate, leaving the final 9-6 Express, clinching the 12-and-under championship in the team’s first tournament.
