Heading into next week’s Tri-County Athletic League finals, the Live Oak High swim team seems to be in fine shape.
Ask Gilroy.
Yesterday, the Acorn boys and girls swept to easy wins over the host Mustangs in the TCAL dual meet finale for both teams.
Led by double winners Mike Wu and Ryan Gautschi, the LO boys pounded Gilroy 107-73, despite the best efforts of Mustang standout Santiago Maciel.
And, the LO girls rolled to an even more one-sided win over the ‘Stangs behind double wins from Ronni Gautschi and Alisa Pinarbasi.
LO coach Mack Haines, who was mildly perturbed that Gilroy appeared to use mostly JV girls swimmers, said there were some outstanding performances by his team anyway. Haines pointed specificall.y to Cameron Peachey’s PR in the 100 backstroke (58.5), despite his second-place finish to Maciel.
Haines said he anticipates a hard-fought TCAL Finals, which will be held on Friday at 2pm at Live Oak.
“It’s going to be between Hollister and us in the boys (competition), and Gilroy will have some say in that with Santiago and Lee Walton,” Haines said. “On the girls side, between us and Salinas it’s way too close to call.”
Haines said there was some consideration given to holding the TCAL Finals at the Aquatics Center and that’s an option in the future.
