The Limelight Performing Arts Pageant is bringing Hollywood to Sacramento. Limelight offers dancers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to be seen and critiqued by entertainment industry professionals responsible for discovering new talent. Dancers are also eligible to compete for trophy and cash awards.

More than taking home a placement ribbon or cash prize, dancers gain much more by participating. Limelight’s select panel of judges will be providing valuable and constructive feedback on performances, giving participants the opportunity to improve their skills for future performances and auditions.

“What American Idol is for singers, Limelight is trying to be for dancers,” said Cristina Maciel, Limelight owner and dance instructor. “I have seen a lot of talent in Northern California, and with the expense of traveling 400 miles to L.A., the opportunity to be seen by a well-established director, agent, or professional choreographer is only a dream to many young dancers. I believe in the talent here and they deserve the opportunity to be seen by this special panel of judges.”

On May 22, Limelight will be in Sacramento with judges Jaime Mortellaro, Leslie Stuve and Philip Leader.

Stuve, a Live Oak High graduate, is currently the manager and coach for the NBA’s Sacramento King’s “Royal Court Dancers.”

Mortellaro is a member of the Directors Guild of America and has directed national commercials for Disney, Reebok, Quaker Oats and Nintendo. He has also produced and directed music videos and television documentaries for artists such as Snoop Dog and N’Sync.

Leader is the head agent for the Buchwald Talent Group’s (BTG) Theatrical Division in Los Angeles. BTG clients include David Hyde Pierce, Debra Messing, Angie Everhart, Annie Potts and French Stewart.

Participants will perform at least one solo, duo, trio or group routine of three minutes or less in the performance categories of Jazz, Tap, Ballet/Pointe, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Acrobatics, Modern, Folkloric, Student Choreography, or Open.

Awards will be given to 1st- 3rd placing routines, Limelight Top 5, Best Choreography, and Photogenic winners. Participants in solos, duos, and trios are eligible to compete for the Miss and Mr. Limelight titles.
