Live Oak boys team loses some depth from last season; girls team
looking good for league
Morgan Hill – Lead by coaches Courtney Hernandez and Mack Haines, the Live Oak swim team took to the pool against Leland in a non-league meet at Live Oak on Wednesday.

The Acorn boys team came away with the victory over the Chargers, while the girls team fell to a strong Leland squad.

“Our team lost some depth on the boys in the middle, swimmers that place fourth or fifth and that really helps out in dual meets,” said Haines. “The girls still have a strong dual meet team, they’re probably the favorite in league.”

Returning to the boys team are swimmers Justin Short, Mike Wu, Shea Coleman, Sam Cretcher, Kyle Fast and Cameron Peachy. A newcomer to the team that should help balance some of the talent they lost in the offseason will be freshman Steven Rick.

“We have some talented boys swimmers,” said Haines. “The question is do we have enough.”

Returning to anchor the Acorns girls squad are Ronni Gautschi, Laura Shelp, Alyssa Pinanrbsi and Amy Marshall. Haines expect the girls to do well in league on the strength of the returners.

Live Oak heads to Hollister to take on San Benito. The San Benito boys team is stacked and is the Tri-County Athletic League favorite this season.

“I hope it’s going to be exciting,” said Haines. “That’s going to be a difficult team for us.”
