Acorn batters put up 15 runs in top of first; Bulldogs get
valuable learning experience in tough TCAL
Morgan Hill – Live Oak catcher April Herrera led the Acorns to their 19-0 victory over a young Sobrato Bulldogs team, going 5-for-5 with five RBIs and an in-the-park homerun.

The Acorns struck for 15 runs in the top of the first inning, before the Bulldogs even got a chance to bat. Brittney Ondich went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Alyssa Adamo also went 3-for-3 with one run driven in for Live Oak.

Casey Post was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs and was quickly undone by some early fielding errors. Post pitch a third of an inning before being relieved by Vanessa Hernandez, who finished the game.

“Sobrato is a developing program,” said Live Oak coach Barry McDonnell. “They (Bulldogs) played with a lot of enthusiasm and stayed upbeat for the whole game.”

Several Acorn players added, “They had a lot of spirit.”

Keeping in the spirit of sportsmanship, the Acorns did their best not to run up the score, sending runners early for outs, so the teams could get a full game in.

Tricia Goularte pitched a complete game, no-hit shut out for Live Oak.

“We’re young and it’s been hard trying to keep momentum and keeping them positive on every play,” said Sobrato coach Natalie Torrez.

“We’re facing some difficult teams. We’re inexperienced and haven’t played together as long. I do see the bonding and comradery building off the field, on the field we’re still trying. These girls are great. They know everybody’s trying and they don’t get down on each other,” Torrez added.

The Bulldogs return to the field on Tuesday to host the first place Gilroy Mustangs at 4pm.

The Acorns are participating in the Wilcox Tournament at Mission College in San Jose this weekend, where they will take on Los Gatos, Santa Clara and St. Francis in pool play.
