A week after having to endure triple digit temperatures that forced their match to be cut short, the Live Oak girls golf team had to deal with cold, windy and wet conditions when facing its biggest rival.
As sprinkles fell on the Gilroy Golf Course on Monday, the Live Oak and Sobrato teams battled it out in the first half of what they call the El Toro Cup.
The home-and-away contest culminated on Wednesday.
Live Oak came away the winner in the first half of play, with a 197-236 victory.
The Acorns went on to sweep Sobrato on Wednesday. Results were not immediately available.
The Acorns were led by Kendall Guertin, who medaled with a round of 42. She was the only one who broke 50 on the day.
The Acorns had two girls shot 51, with Amy Gunther and Frances Giba both narrowly missing the sub-50 mark.
Kelli DesRochers was the low score for the Bulldogs, shooting 51.
Sophomore Amber Bearden rounded out Live Oak’s day with a 53.
For Sobrato, Kelly Ishida was second with a round of 60, followed by Alyssa Kern and Allison Ansbro with 64s.
The Bulldogs are 2-3 following the matches. They were coming off a two-match sweep over Gunderson.
Live Oak improves to 4-1 on the season.
Sobrato coach Aaron Rodriguez said Gunderson is in its first year playing girls golf, so there was a little inexperience at play.
The Bulldogs will next host Santa Teresa at the Coyote Creek Golf Course for a home-and-away match starting on Sept. 23. Tee time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Live Oak, meanwhile, completed a two-match sweep of Santa Teresa last week. The Acorns will now pivot to take on Gunderson in a two-match series beginning on Tuesday. Tee time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Gilroy Golf Course.
