Return of lost iPod restores hope in 11-year-old

Dear Editor,

I was at the Cinelux Movie Theatre in Morgan Hill on Sunday and I lost my iPod that I had been given for Christmas, it was fully loaded and had everything on it.

I didn’t think I would ever get it back but someone found it and handed it to the manager. My mom had e-mailed the theatre in the event that it would be found, never thinking that it would be. When the manager called to say it was there my mom went to pick it up and wanted to thank the person for handing it in, but they never left their name.

So, to the honest person out there that took the trouble to hand in my iPod … THANK YOU. You have restored hope in me that there are good and honest people still out there!

Good job reporting on Santa Clara County supervisors race

Dear Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Michael Moore at The Morgan Hill Times and Mark Derry at The Gilroy Dispatch for the excellent coverage of Teresa Alvarado’s South County endorsements and the supervisors in general. There will be an announcement soon of a city of Gilroy councilman’s endorsement as well. The article about the supervisor’s race(by Michael Moore) was well done but please note that, unlike Morgan Hill and Gilroy, the position of Mayor rotates amongst council members in Los Gatos. Diane McNutt is now Mayor and Mr. Wasserman is a councilman this year.

In my opinion there are several very good reasons that Teresa Alvarado has received these endorsements in South County. She is a graduate of Leadership Gilroy and is very visible in South County even before she announced her campaign. She is an articulate voice regarding the many issues that South County faces. She has studied the water issues here and realizes that South County is very unique in the Bay Area when it comes to water and flooding. She realizes that South County is special in that we are the only truly rural region left in the county and has championed to protect our greenbelts and open spaces. As an Hispanic woman, Teresa is also in tune to the special needs of an ethnic female population in the county.

I could go on and on but more than anything I wanted to thank the editors and reporters of our local papers for bringing us information about this important race. For those of us in South County that have felt for so long that we did not have a voice about our unique issues, you now have a chance to elect that voice.

Finally a thought about having an elected voice for South County, we as residents of this area must show up and speak at the public meetings on such subjects as water redistricting, high speed rail, air quality and flooding. I have been gratified to see a lot more folks now participating in the public forums. Keep it up and together we can be a very loud voice in determining our future.

Single-payer health system would reduce medical costs

Dear Editor,

Anthem Blue Cross has shown California and the Nation one way to lower health care costs. Remove health insurance for profit from the American medical care system.

Single payer health care provides one way to do this. There may be other good ways. Medical care costs can never be controlled when insurance companies are allowed obscene profits from coverage of people in need.

Silicon Valley Reads program was a huge success

Dear Editor:

The 7th annual Silicon Valley Reads in Morgan Hill program with Novella Carpenter, author of “Farm City,” was another big success with great attendance and an entertaining presentation. The Friends of the Library wish to thank our event co-sponsors: AAUW brought delicious and healthy refreshments; BookSmart sold books at discount; and the Morgan Hill Library provided the program room.

We’re grateful also to the volunteers at MHAT (channel 19 public access television), who filmed the presentation, edited it and then put it on the schedule at four different times last weekend. We appreciate you all.
