Dear Editor,

With Coyote Valley development plans such an important issue, we need a leader with the maturity, experience and “good relationships with leaders outside Morgan Hill” to protect Morgan Hill’s interests. That leader is Mayor Dennis Kennedy.

“Kennedy has won the respect of regional leaders through work on the Valley Transportation Authority and other groups,” according to the San Jose Mercury News’ endorsement of the mayor for re-election.

On Coyote Valley, Kennedy “has the best chance of achieving a win-win, and he will be the most zealous protector of the greenbelt.”

Kennedy has said that with experience comes wisdom and you learn that people respond more positively to mutual cooperation than they do to threats. There is plenty of time to consider lawsuits when necessary. For example, Kennedy led the successful legal fight for years to save our hospital site for the new medical services we now enjoy.

Councilman Greg Sellers, on the other hand, was brought up short a few months ago at a City Council meeting when the City Attorney reported back on his strategy of threatening lawsuits regarding Coyote Valley. He was told there was no one to sue and no basis on which to sue them. Nevertheless, Councilman Sellers continues to threaten lawsuits as his main strategy regarding Coyote Valley.

In the meantime, Kennedy has begun the hard, time-consuming work of brokering an agreement that has been called Morgan Hill’s “best chance” to protect its interests. Serving as chairman of the Coyote Valley South County Stakeholders Committee, Kennedy will speak with one voice for all of the people in South County who will be affected by Coyote Valley development.

Morgan Hill has many critically important issues to address in the next two years and needs a real leader to keep us moving in the right direction. I’m voting for vision, experience and integrity. I’m voting to re-elect Dennis Kennedy.

Ned Pender, Morgan Hill
