I would like to thank columnist Lisa Pampuch for keeping the spotlight on the flood control issue or lack of flood control in Morgan Hill in her article on Monday, April 5.

I am a Morgan Hill homeowner and resident. I live on the north end of town. A few years ago, my home was re-designated into a flood zone area. Now I’m forced to purchase a $300 yearly flood insurance policy by my mortgage company. That’s along with paying my yearly property taxes, which have a flood control assessment also tacked on.

I am also fed up with the Santa Clara Valley Water District and the City of Morgan Hill for dragging their feet. I felt that the Water District held the county “hostage” in 2000 by forcing residents to pass Measure B (Clean, Safe Creeks and Natural Flood Protection Measure) to continue the property tax assessment that was “sun setting” or there would be no more flood control projects, period.

They heavily promoted the measure and the 10-year plan in South County. So here we are almost half way into the 10-year plan. I haven’t seen any evidence around town of this plan being put into effect. I wonder who is holding the Water District accountable for the 10-year deadline? The money is continually being collected. Where is it going? Not to Morgan Hill.

More and more developments are sprouting up around town – especially in my designated flood zone area. In my opinion, it’s just sending more water down Little Llagas Creek at a faster flow and ending up on Watsonville Road.

I feel there is too much time being wasted in government bureaucracy, while citizens continue to dish out money for more studies and more assessments as the flood problems persist.
