A gravesite service will be held at 10:30 A.M., at San Juan Bautista Cemetery, 70 Monterey St. A Celebration of Life will follow at the San Juan Bautista VFW Post 6395, 58 Monterey St., San Juan Bautista, CA 95045 on Monday July 25, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the San Juan Bautista VFW Post 6395, 58 Monterey St., San Juan Bautista, CA 95045.
Gabriel Joseph Pastore died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, May 27, 2016. He was 83.
Mr. Pastore was a man of many talents and skills. He served in the Navy for four years during the Korean War on the USS Corregidor. After the Navy,his career started with the Sheet Metal Workers Union. He served the Monterey Peninsula while working on multiple subdivisions and commercial buildings. One of the last jobs he did was the metal roof on the Fairmount Hotel in San Jose. He also worked for Val’s Plumbing & Heating in Salinas, where he spent most of his career.
He retired from the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 104 with 40 years of service.
After retirement, he worked as a forester on the Aromas Granite Rock Quarry. He was also Post Commander/Chaplain of the San Juan Bautista VFW Post 6395 for several years. But what he enjoyed most, was family gatherings and talking with others.
He provided for his family and was always willing to help those around him.
Mr. Pastore is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Joy Anne Pastore, son, Joseph (Laura) Pastore, step-daughter, Jeanette Justice and step-son, Ricky Haven, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
