After loss to Campbell, Morgan Hill earns second shutout of
season
MORGAN HILL — The Morgan Hill Junior Midget Raiders suffered their first loss of the season against the Campbell Bears over the week of Sept. 11 but had a much different result the following week against the Santa Cruz Seahawks
The Raiders dominated the later game, winning 27-0 for their second shutout this season.
The Morgan Hill defense, led by Jacob Saldivar, who had two sacks and forced two fumbles. Other strong defensive plays were made by Luis Gutierrez, Jonathan Freitas, Donald Method, Collin Ingram, Brenden Schow and Pedro Aragon of the Raiders (2-1-1).
Max Sanford and J.T. and Clay Miller intercepted passes to help keep the Seahawks’ passing game grounded.
Maximo Zhang rushed for the Raiders’ first touchdown in the opening quarter. Clay Miller threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Sanford for Morgan Hill’s second score — the Raiders’ first passing touchdown this year. Cole Campi extended the lead with a 40-yard touchdown run. He also completed his first pass this season to Logan Hall.
Teammate Cole Campi scored the next touchdown on a 40-yard run and also completed his first pass of the season to Logan Hall.
Morgan Hill’s special teams got in on the scoring as well when Grant Gluhaich and Hall blocked a punt, and Gluhaich recovered the loose ball in the end zone. Josh Alaniz tacked on his second 2-point conversion of the season with a 20-yard kick.
A week earlier, the Raiders had a tough time covering the Bears’ aerial attack, but Elvis Bernal and Clay Miller played to their potential against Campbell’s talented wide receivers. Miller intercepted a deep ball, and Bernal deflected several passes.
Sanford scored a rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter to help the Raiders avoid being shut out.
Morgan Hill’s next game is against the Brentwood Falcons on Saturday.
