Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Evelyn Fern Pivetti passed away of natural causes at age 97 on Saturday February 22, 2014.
Evelyn was born on December 14, 1916 in Fresno, California. She was the daughter of Joseph and Nora Silveira. The family moved to Hollister in 1923.
After graduating from San Benito High School in 1935, Evelyn worked at Chambers and Cook Photography. She met the love of her life, Albert Pivetti in high school and they married in the Mission San Juan Bautista in August of 1938. While in high school she was selected as the Queen of the first Garlic Festival. Evelyn and Al were married for 61 years before Al passed away in 1999. Their’s was truly a love affair and they worked together during Al’s reign as the Exalted Ruler of the local Elks Lodge to provide many social activities for the lodge and it’s members. Evelyn loved to entertain. As an accomplished cook she spent many hours in the kitchen during the Holidays baking for her large family which included 3 children, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Evelyn and Al were very involved in the community and charitable organizations within the community. She was an early member of The Children’s Home Society (now Kinship Center). She especially enjoyed, in her later years, participating in the annual Wine Tasting sitting at the information table where she could see the many friends she had come to know over the years. Like many women of this era, and of course today, she especially enjoyed her needle point and crocheting. For many years she was a member of her beloved Tuesday Club and The Friday Club. Here, she enjoyed a large circle of lady friends. Another favorite community activity was the annual Hazel Hawkins Boutique annual fund raiser.
She loved her community of almost 90 years, and was an eager volunteer any time she was asked.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Joe & Nora Silveira and her beloved husband Al Pivetti and a sister Marilyn Jo Pivetti.
She is survived by her children Robert Pivetti (Rhea), Nancy Oliveira (Fernando) and Tom Pivetti. She had 11 grandchildren; Michelle Pivetti Bernat, Brett Pivetti, Matt Pivetti, Nick Pivetti, Jason Guerra, Corinne Guerra, Megan Ward, Danielle Nino, Lauren Scott, Justin Ducoty and Gueran Ducoty . She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; Tatum Bernat, Olivia Bernat, Marcus Guerra, Ava Guerra, Logan Ward, Ryder Ward, Vincent Nino, Elizabeth Nino, Elena Nino, Molly Nino, Siena Scott and Beau Scott.
