Dear Editor,
It is difficult for me to understand why people seem to think that it is inevitable that we should fill up Coyote Valley with cement and pollution.
Someday in the future people will say, “I heard that California used to be beautiful, with rolling hills and valleys dotted with oak trees and beautiful wild flowers … too bad that we never saw it.” It seems to me that we have an obligation to preserve some of the natural beauty of this state for future generations.
For those who think that businesses will be created, thus reducing the commute time for them, think again. Take a look at the office vacancy rate in the Santa Clara Valley. There are many very large buildings that have been empty for three or four years.
Many have never been occupied. Many businesses are moving operations offshore and the United States has fallen far behind other countries in technology, which will only help to move more business offshore.
Within San Jose, there are many areas that are in need of revitalization. If mixed-use areas with both business and housing are needed, these areas would be ideal, since public transportation is already available. Coyote Valley is a very beautiful area. Let’s preserve it for future generations to enjoy.
