I’m writing to you about concerns regarding the dayworkers present circumstances and the future facility that is planned for them.
First, I hear many complaints about the area up the street from where they stand at Main and Depot as to their toilet habits as they don’t have a port-a-potty, so therefore they go just out of sight from the street. They dump trash along with using the area along the railroad tracks as a toilet. We all assisted in raising money for a facility for them and are now looking at doing another function on New Year’s Eve at the Community Center.
I’m writing to you to ask for your assistance to plead with the mayor and other city officials to get a port-a-potty out there for them along with a couple of trash barrels.
Next is the dayworkers facility itself. I understood we were going to provide a facility for them to keep them out of the elements. Now I’m hearing they will be registered and will have workers compensation and will be treated as employees by whomever hires them. If this is the case, most of the workers will probably move elsewhere as they’re illegal and therefore all our work will be for nothing. This is my opinion and I believe many others feel the same way. Any input into this matter will be greatly appreciated.
