North-South All-Star Basketball Classic April 9

The 19th Annual North-South All-Star Basketball Classic, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Salinas, will be held on Saturday, April 9 at Hartnell College in Salinas.

The game will include the top graduating seniors from the Tri-County area (Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey) playing their first college-format basketball game.

The girls teams will play at 6pm with the boys game to follow at 7:45pm. All-star rosters will be released on March 31.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Kiwanis Club of Salinas and Sunrise House, a youth/family counseling/crisis center in Salinas, which deals with alcohol and other drug related problems.

MH Pony Baseball’s Opening Day April 9

After being rained-out lastweekend, Morgan Hill Pony Baseball rescheduled its annual Opening Day ceremonies for Saturday, April 9 at Britton. The event will begin at 9am, followed by regularly scheduled games.

MH Grand Prix criterium bicycle race April 10

Downtown Morgan Hill will be transformed into a bicycling race course for the Morgan Hill Grand Prix criterium on Sunday, April 10. The event, which is sponsored by Specialized Bicycles, will be held from 8am-6pm, and is expected to draw an estimated 300-500 cyclists and 2,000 spectators. The criterium will include a variety of cycling events for men and women in different age and skill categories, as well as kids races and exhibition displays. Admission is free.

Hollister Adult Baseball League seeking players

Players are needed for an Adult Baseball League in Hollister. Local league play and national tournaments are included. All positions are open for players 18-and-older.

MH Swim Club tryouts

The Morgan Hill Swim Club has begun its 44th straight year of representing the Morgan Hill community in USA Swimming. Tryouts for the team are open to anyone ages 6-18 are held at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center every Monday through Friday at 5pm.

Monthly dues begin at no more than $75, with sibling and year-round discount programs offered. The team was awarded national status for the second straight year as a bronze level club by USA Swimming, and is the host team for the 2005 Far Westerns Championships being held at the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center this week.

El Toro Aquatics in full swim this spring

MH’s USYVL signups

Registration is now being accepted for the United States Youth Volleyball League’s Spring season in Morgan Hill. The USYVL is an instructional volleyball league that operates in a co-ed format for boys and girls ages 8-14. The USYVL season runs for eight weeks at Paradise Park and Galvan Park, beginning in April and ending in June.

Taylor Made Baseball camps continue

Taylor Made Baseball Pitching Mini-Camps begin once a month through May and run for four consecutive weeks.

Camps are taught by Rich Taylor. Cost is $99 per camp which includes a DVD and a pitching book ( while supply lasts). Each class is one hour (four total hours). Player to coach ratio is 4:1.

The camps will be held indoors in Morgan Hill. Each player is filmed and receives a DVD. Focus is on developing proper throwing and pitching mechanics.

Camps are held on Thursday evenings. Payment is due prior to camp.
