Freedom 5000 race
The Morgan Hill Freedom 5000 5K walk and run will be held on July 4 beginning at PA Walsh Elementary School. The cost by June 28 is $23 and $25 on race day and includes breakfast and chip timing. Fitness expo
The Max Muscle sports nutrition and training gear supply center, located at 8025 Kern Avenue in Gilroy, will be hosting a fitness expo July 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – featuring professional body builder Quincy Taylor and pro figure competitor Elaine Goodled.
Taylor – who competed in the Olympiads – was the 2001 Mr. USA, while Goodled – who appeared on the cover of Oxygen Magazine – placed in the top 5 at the 2002 Arnold Classic. The two will be posing for pictures and signing autographs.
There will also be hourly raffles and vendors with free samples in front of the store – which is off First Street in Gilroy.
Sports camps
The second all-sport camp for boys and girls ages 6-13 starts June 23 at Live Oak High School. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Kids are introduced to all types of sports. There is still room. The cost is $135 or $115 for 2 or more. Details: Norm Dow at 847-2075.
Reek run
The Reek Runs is scheduled for Saturday, July 12, at Gavilan College. The 10K race starts at 8 a.m. and the 5K run/walk starts at 8:15. Medals are awarded to the top three places in each division. Pre-registration will be accepted through Saturday, July 5, and costs $20 with shirt and $12 without. Or register at Gavilan on race day, near the tennis courts, for $25 with shirt and $15 without. Golf lessons
Director of Instruction Scott Krause, a PGA Class ‘A’ Professional, will be running a free six-week golf clinic at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Gilroy.
The clinic – which starts at 10 a.m. and has dates on July 7, 14, 21, 28, as well as August 4 and 11 – is open to the first 12 girls to sign up in the Eagle Ridge Golf Shop. Please call and reserve your spot.
Clinics will be designed to help the junior girl golfer improve her game. Topics covered are swing and stance fundamentals, pitching and chipping, putting, course management, drills and much, much more.
This is free clinic sponsored by a grant from the Pacific Women’s Golf Association.

Fall soccer
Signups are now being taken for fall soccer for the Orchard Valley Soccer League. The cost is $120 as space is available. Download an application at www.ovysl.com. Youth hoops
The summer SCBA will add teams to its junior high boys division if four to six more people sign up. Any interested boy going into the 7th, 8th or 9th grade is eligible. Any girl who wants to play in a junior high/high school level basketball league on Saturdays this summer should also call Jim Green at 460-7402.
Pop warner signups
Morgan Hill Pop Warner is still accepting applications. Equipment is issued July 26; Official start of season is Aug. 1; Jamboree game: Aug. 31; Regular season ends: week of Oct. 26; Post season begins: Nov. 1.

Basketball camp
Crossroads Christian School located at 145 Wright Ave. is running a basketball camp for grades entering 3rd through 8th grade for both boys and girls. Bear cubs golf
Coyote Creek Bear Cubs introduces the ultimate learning experience for the junior golfer (17 years and under). Learn the basic fundamentals from the certified PGA Instructors, offering full swing to short game fundamentals, rules and etiquette course management. Plus discounts on golf and unlimited range balls during practice days. Included is golf instruction, play and practice days, bear Cubs hat, gift box, sleeve of Coyote Creek logo balls, end of the season BBQ. Cost is $175.
The program runs through Oct. 31. The instruction times are the first and third Saturday of the month from 2- 3 p.m. Cub member s pay $10 and accompanying adult pays super twilight rate of $32 Cart is not included. Range Days are Tuesdays and Fridays all day and Saturdays, Sundays after 2 p.m. Cub member receives unlimited range balls and accompanying adult receives a large bucket for $5.
Junior golf camp

El Toro Aquatics offers 30 or 60-minute sessions offered Mon/Wed or Tue/Thur at Live Oak HS beginning at 5 or 5:30 p.m. or Britton MS at 4:30 or 5 p.m.
El Toro offers days and times to fit the schedule of active families. SwimAmerica Morgan Hill learn-to-swim is now accepting spring session registration for classes offered at the Britton Pool from 3:30-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
SwimAmerica classes are at the Live Oak HS pool. Lessons are 25 minutes offered every half hour from 10 a.m. -12:30 p.m. and 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Rotary club golf tournament
Mark Friday, Oct. 3 on your calendar now to play in the Morgan Hill Rotary Club’s 10th Annual Oktoberfest Golf Tournament at beautiful San Juan Oaks Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament are used for projects that benefit the community of Morgan Hill, including ten scholarships awarded to local high school seniors.
