Morgan Hill skater wins Mites scoring title

10-year-old Vincent Czeropski of the Predators scored 31 goals to win the Mites Division scoring title in the Rollin Ice League Winter Season, which ended last weekend.

Regarded as his team’s best defensive player for his shot-blocking skills and stealing the puck, he also scored better than 60 percent of his team’s 50 goals during the season en route to winning the scoring title.

Vincent’s single-game accomplishments included scoring five goals in a game twice, scoring four goals in a game twice and scoring one hat trick (three goals in a game). He also scored a game-tying goal with 4.4 seconds left in a game earlier in the season, and added four goals in his team’s first playoff game, helping the squad to a second-place finish.

OVYSL U12 girls soccer needs players

The Orchard Valley Toros U12 Girls soccer team needs a few aggressive players for the fall season. This team of Gilroy and Morgan Hill girls play Class 1 competitive soccer and made it to the quarterfinals of the State Cup earlier this year. If you are a girl born between Aug 1, 1993 and July 31, 1994 and love the game of soccer, we want you to come tryout for our team. MHPB Colt division signups

Morgan Hill Pony Baseball is accepting registration applications for the upcoming Colt baseball season. Colt Division baseball is for players aged 15-16 only. For the first time, applicants from Hollister, as well as Gilroy and San Jose (south of Bernal Road), will be eligible to play in the Morgan Hill league. Tryouts will be held at Live Oak High on Saturday, May 21 at 9am.

Mushroom Mardi Gras Runs set for May 28

The annual Mushroom Mardi Gras 10k Race and 5k Fun Run-Walk will take place again this year on Saturday, May 28. The race will start at 8:30am. There will be a new starting location: the Ranger Station at the corner of Malaguerra and Morning Star near Cochrane Road in Morgan Hill. Race Day registration starts at 7am. Coe Park to host 5K/10K run in June

Beautiful Hunting Hollow will be the site for the Henry W. Coe 5K/10K Run on Saturday, June 11 at 9am. Deadline for preregistration is Saturday, June 4.

Cat’s Hill Classic cycling race to go Saturday

Testarossa Vineyards and The Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club will host the Cat’s Hill Classic on Saturday.

This legendary cycling race is nationally known for its challenging Cat’s Hill climb up Nicholson Avenue in the charming village of Los Gatos.

This year for the first time, spectators and racers are invited to park their cars one mile up the College Avenue hill at the Testarossa Vineyards event parking area, and be treated to a free cable-car shuttle ride to and from the race course.

The free shuttle will run every 20 minutes starting at 10 am, until after the final race podium ceremony ends in the late afternoon. Driving directions to Testarossa Vineyards can be found at testarossavineyards.com.

Information about the Cat’s Hill Classic is at catshill.org. Guests at the Testarossa Vineyards, named 2004 Winery of the Year by Restaurant Wine Magazine, will also be offered the opportunity to sample the award-winning wine from this historic vineyard.

Race spectators will be offered coupons for a free wine-tasting the day of the race in the Testarossa Vineyards Wine Cellar.

The Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club, recently named the number one cycling club in the US, has presented the Cat’s Hill Classic Bicycle Race continuously since 1974.

The grueling Cat’s Hill climb has challenged the likes of Greg LeMond (winner in 1978), and others. More than 700 amateur and professional riders are expected to compete on the demanding one-mile course..
