Community members participated Tuesday evening in a hard-hat tour of the $17 million Centennial Recreation Center. West Coast Contractors, Inc., is building the facility. The unusually long April rainy season delayed construction the first two weeks of April, but dry weather during the last two weeks has allowed the roofing installation to continue. The mechanical roof top units have been set and the swimming pool has been excavated. Windows and storefront systems are being installed and the sheet rock is completed in one of the center’s sections, ready for paint. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the anticipated grand opening has been pushed back to at least the middle of October and possibly the first of November 2006. The project, however, is within budget, city officials said.
