The Sobrato Bulldogs boys basketball team got their inaugural varsity season underway with a win over host the Yerba Buena Aztec Warriors, 77-51, Saturday.
“The game was pretty much what I anticipated,” said Bulldogs’ coach Lawrence Crawford.
Junior guard Marqus Crawford led the way for Sobrato with 28 points, including four 3-pointers, six rebounds, six assists and four steals in the game. Teammate Mubarik Abdullahi contributed 21 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in the win.
According to Crawford, 6-foot-3 sophomore Jarom Warren was a pleasant surprise with a double-double. Warren recorded 10 points and pulled in 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Sobrato’s defense held the Aztec Warriors’ leading scorer Kevin Tom to just 12 points in the game. Tom was the only Yerba Buena player to score in the double digits.
The win allowed Sobrato to measure where they stand on certain aspects of its game and what needs improvement.
“Our inexperience inside the post is where we have to focus our effort in the next couple of weeks,” said Crawford addressing the areas the Bulldogs need improvement.
The Bulldogs will get their next test tonight, as they host the Alisal Trojans at 7pm.
