Sobrato ends five game losing streak with homecoming win
Morgan Hill – The Sobrato Bulldogs boys basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak in Tri-County Athletic League action with Friday night’s 64-51 victory over the North Salinas Vikings.
Guard Marqus Crawford recorded a double-double for the Bulldogs, scoring 33 points and pulling 13 rebounds. Crawford also finished with three assists, three steals and one blocked shot, while Mubarik Abdullahi contributed 21 points, dished out nine assists and had six rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot for Sobrato.
The Bulldogs (7-13, 3-5 TCAL) dominated the Vikings (2-19, 0-9 TCAL) on the boards, pulling down 34 rebounds in the game.
Sophomore Jarom Warren scored four points and pulled in five rebounds for the Bulldogs and Phillip Saenz had three points, two rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot in the win.
Sobrato and North Salinas played an evenly matched game through halftime with the scored tied at 19-19. Both the Bulldogs and Viking each scored seven points in the first quarter and 12 points in the second quarter.
Sobrato’s offense broke out in the third quarter, however, and the Bulldogs started to pull away by outscoring North Salinas, 25-12 in the quarter.
Leading 44-31 at the start of the fourth, Sobrato held off the Vikings push and didn’t allow them any closer.
The victory was much needed for the Bulldogs, who have four games remaining in TCAL play in their inaugural varsity season.
Sobrato returns to the court on Wednesday in Hollister to face the San Benito Haybalers at 7pm.
