Morgan Hill – High school sports thrive and rely on support from the community to stay updated, competitive and efficient.
That is where the booster clubs come into play.
Under the leadership of new president Paula Mancias, the Live Oak Athletic Booster are planning their major fund raising event of the year.
On Sept. 8 the Live Oak Booster will host a fun-filled evening of casino games, an auction, music, hearty hors d’oeuvres and drinks at the Morgan Hill Buddhist Center, 16450 Murphy Ave.
“We are really looking forward to this event because the Live Oak parents and alumni, and the whole community for that matter, are so supportive,” Mancias said.
Mancias, who has been involved with the athletic booster for three years as the baseball representative, said she took the job as president because of her passion for sports.
Mancias’ son Gabriel plays football, basketball and baseball at Live Oak, and she loves to watch him compete.
“My favorite thing to do is to watch my son play sports … there is nothing better than that,” she said.
It is the Live Oak Athletic Booster’ honored tradition to provide Live Oak athletic teams with essential items such as safety gear and equipment, as well as contribute to the improvements of the athletic playing fields, and also award scholarship funds for their athletes’ continued education.
80 percent of the money collected from booster membership goes to the respective program selected by the member, Mancias said.
“Everything about Live Oak athletic booster is so positive, and I am very honored to be a part of it,” she said.
Some of the current projects the Live Oak Booster are discussing include improving and updating the pool, the tennis courts, the wrestling gym, and the basketball court.
“One of the things the that the athletic department asked is if we would fund having our Acorn logo painted on the gym floor,” Mancias said. “And that is something we feel will really add to the school.”
Another project that the booster are considering is improving the now dirt area near the snack shack.
“We want to have some brickwork done to enhance the beauty of the entrance, so we are thinking about having a ‘Buy-A-Brick’ fund raiser where members of the community can buy a brick and personalize it,” she said.
With a ton of ideas and numerous fundraisers and projects in the works, the Live Oak Booster can use as much support as they can get.
“My job as president is going to be great because of all the people involved,” Mancias said. “Live Oak is an awesome school and the proud tradition is just great, but Live Oak is also an older school and it’s time to make improvements.”
Tickets for the September 8 fund raiser can be purchased at Book Smart at 80 E 2nd Street in Morgan Hill, or by e-mailing
