Bette J. Settrini passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Saturday, March 30, 2013, after a short battle with cancer.
She was born in Hollister, CA on August 7, 1926, and moved to Gilroy when she was a year old. She attended Gilroy schools and graduated from Gilroy High School. Bette retired from the State of California Employment Development office after 30+ years of service.
She is predeceased by her parents John and Marion Bozzo Filice; her daughter, Janie Lynn Settrini; her brothers, Tom Filice and Ron Filice; and sister-in-law, Lois Filice.
She is survived by her brother, W. John Filice; sisters-in-law Maxine Filice and Susan Filice; nieces and nephews, Greg Filice, Christine Filice, David Filice, Denise Kline, Marlene Velasco, Vickie Oliveri, Tim Filice and Terre Branch; 14 great-nieces and nephews; aunt, Marietta Scagliotti; many cousins; and her gentleman friend for the last 17 years, Lee Silveira.
Bette enjoyed spending time with her family; trips to Lake Tahoe to play keno and slot machines; shopping; and most of all, traveling about the Western states with Lee, where he showed her all the best fishing and hunting spots.
She’ll always be remembered for wearing her favorite colors – red, black, and white; for her lime jello salad, garlic dip, candied yams, and rocky road candy. She was the glue that held this family together.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley and the Visiting Angels caregivers Alejandra, Lorraine, Karen and Vickie for their kind and gentle care.
