For the third season, Jonathan Souza will be the artistic director and conductor for the South Bay Singers, a vibrant community choir with members from Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy. Souza brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role, having spent more than two decades as a music educator and leader.

Souza’s educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Vocal  Performance from Humboldt State University and a Master of Arts in Music, Choral Conducting from San Jose State University. He is currently in his 11th year with the Gilroy Unified School District, where he serves as a choral music teacher and has been recognized for his teaching excellence with numerous awards.

As the artistic director of the South Bay Singers, Souza is committed to fostering artistic excellence and engaging the community through music, said choir member Kathy Joy.

“He collaborates closely with the choir’s board to ensure seamless execution of their artistic vision during rehearsals and performances,” Joy said. “His leadership style emphasizes collaboration and innovation creating a  thriving environment for the choir.”

The South Bay Singers are also fortunate to have Sandi Lien as their collaborative pianist for another season. Sandi’s accompaniment is marked by exceptional patience and skill.

“Her versatility across various musical genres enables her to adapt effortlessly to distinctive styles and challenges presented by the choir’s diverse repertoire,” Joy said. “Sandi is an invaluable and integral part of the South Bay Singers.”

Looking ahead to the Spring ’25 concert, Perspectives and Connections, the South Bay Singers are preparing to deliver another exceptional performance under Souza’s direction. The concert includes a wide range of styles and themes, from spiritual and nature-inspired pieces to socially conscious works, offering emotional depth and introspection, while providing a sense of community and global connection.
