Regardless of how she does today, Sobrato senior girls tennis player Emily Ankiel qualified for CCS.
After a semi final win in the BVAL singles tournament Wednesday, Ankiel became the first girls tennis player from Sobrato to advance to CCS. She plays in the BVAL finals today.
Ankiel was seeded third in the BVAL tournament. Her first round opponent was to be Westmont’s No. 1 player, whom she met and beaten in their three previous matches, but she received a walkover when the Westmont opponent failed to show up for the tournament.
The walkover victory got her a place in the semi finals against the No. 2 seed.
Ankiel lost the first set 6-3 but won the second set 6-4. She then carried the third set 7-6 (7-2).
“The third set is always about wanting it the most,” said coach Brad Leach. “Emily’s skill and determination won her the third tie breaker set.”
