\MOUNTAIN VIEW – Two of Live Oak’s lesser used pitchers had the chance to get some work in during Saturday’s final game of the West Coast Classic.

Both Eric Abbott and Scott Moquin pitched well in the 6-2 loss. Kyle Bennett hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to get within 3-2, but St. Francis exploded for three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Live Oak loaded the bases with two outs but couldn’t cash in.

“We walked out of there with a positive feeling knowing that we could compete with one of the top teams in CCS,” said Live Oak coach Mark Cummins.

The game was originally scheduled for Thursday but had to be rescheduled because of rain. Live Oak finished 1-3 after playing some of the best teams in the area.

The Acorns took some extended batting practice this week to try to losing up the bats for Wednesday’s game at Hollister.

“We need to get some guys hot at the plate and catch some clutch hitting,” Cummins said. “With Ryan (Muller) on the mound, we hopefully don’t have to score a whole lot of runs. Hopefully we will get some good defense behind him.”

Live Oak started off the tournament with a 4-2 win over St. Francis from Ohio. The Acorns lost to Arch Bishop Mitty 7-1 and then to Lakewood 5-4.
