“Now she looks like a real hockey player,” said coach Christy Musselmann. “After it happened, the girls picked up the tempo and really wanted to win.
Saratoga scored the only goal late in the first half. But Live Oak (1-5-1, 0-1-1 BVAL) dominated in the second, but couldn’t put in a goal.
“We couldn’t finish to save our lives,” Musselmann said. “The girls weren’t working as a team in the first half. Once they settled down, they were able to get into it. We were down at their side the whole second half.”
It didn’t help that the bus was headed to Sequoia High instead of Saratoga before Musselmann realized it and had the driver turn around. By the time the Acorns got there, they had only 15 minutes to warm up.
Musselmann said she worried that the team is not focused coming into games so far this year.
“We have all the talent we need” Musselmann said. “The girls can win. It seems like we always come out flat. We have one of the toughest brackets, but we could beat every team. We just need to come to play every day.”
Live Oak played at Del Mar Thursday (results were not available at press time). The Acorns will take on Cupertino at home next Tuesday before playing a road game at Willow Glen on Thursday.
Note: Live Oak is still shuffling uniforms around after several were stolen over the summer and replaced with $2000 from the Boosters. N ow the JV wears the kelly green, while the varsity wears the forest green.
