Celebrate National Poetry Month by checking out some poetry at the Morgan Hill Public Library. There are collections by American and international poets, Pulitzer Prize winning poets, National Book Award poets, poetry in other languages, and poetry for children.

To hear great poets read their works you can listen to the CDs which come with the book Poetry Speaks, or check out other poetry collections on audio cassette or CD.

You will find lists of Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winners for poetry by selecting “Best Seller and Other Lists” from the search screen of the library catalog either from home or in the library. You may place holds on items from home with your library card and pin number by going to the library home page at www.santaclaracountylib.org and selecting “searching our web catalog”.

If you have a need to find a particular poem, the library provides access to a poetry database, Granger’s World of Poetry. This database, (and other databases), is available both within the library and from home.

As with the catalog, you will need a library card and a pin number for access from home. If you would like to learn how to use this database, or any database provided by the library, please ask a reference librarian to show you the resources available.

On April 1, 2003, the Academy of American Poets unveiled a National Poetry Map of America on its award-winning website, www.poets.org, with state-by-state listings of:

• Poems, poets, and poet laureates from each state

• Poetry journals & publishers

• Poetry organizations and reading series

• Bookstores with strong poetry sections

• Festivals, conferences and writing programs and much more.

You may be interested in visiting the website of the Academy of American Poets. If you do not have Internet access at home, Internet access is available at the library. Ask at the library reference desk for more information.
