The annual South Valley Symphony Youth Concert will be held on
Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Gavilan College Theater at 10 a.m. and 2
p.m. Featured soloist will be Adler Ma who will perform the first
movement of the Beethoven piano concerto No. 5
“The Emperor” . The 14-year-old is returning by popular demand
following his initial appearance with the orchestra last year.
The annual South Valley Symphony Youth Concert will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Gavilan College Theater at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Featured soloist will be Adler Ma who will perform the first movement of the Beethoven piano concerto No. 5 “The Emperor” . The 14-year-old is returning by popular demand following his initial appearance with the orchestra last year.

Born in Hong Kong in 1988 he began his study of the piano at age six. Initially instructed by his mother, he won three piano competitions in the Hong Kong Music Festival. Since immigrating to the United States in 1990, he has been a student under the meticulous tutelage of Mr. Kwok Kuan Koo. Adler was selected as a Stanford Young artist for the year 2000. Currently a 10th grader at Lynbrook High School he is the founder of the website named “Appreciating Classical Music Society”.

The orchestra will perform “The Story of Babar the Elephant” by Poulenc with narration by Marilyn Abad Cardenhall, head of the dramatic arts department at Gavilan College. Dancers of the Morgan Hill Dance Academy, Paula Valentine, director, will perform four selections from “The Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky.

Students of the Suzuki Strings of South Valley teachers Lesa Zuehlke and Audrey Gray, Suzanne Lambert, LaRene Green and Marilyn George will perform various selections on the program. Details: 847-1441.
