GILROY – A middle-aged man robbed Gilroy’s movie theater complex at gunpoint Friday and escaped with between $4,000 and $5,000 in cash, according to police.
Employees at Platinum Theatres described the robber as a white man between 40 and 50 years old with blond-gray, shoulder-length hair, standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He wore a blue baseball hat, a dark blue pullover jacket and tan pants.
The man approached an employee at about 10:30 p.m. and asked to speak to the manager, according to police. The man said he was looking for a lost purse.
The employee led the man to the business office and called the assistant manager on duty. When this manager arrived, the robber drew a handgun, described as semi-automatic, and took the cash – which the manager had been counting on the business desk, according to police.
It is unknown whether the robber escaped on foot or in a vehicle.
