The Morgan Hill Police Department arrested an alleged rapist Tuesday while he was reportedly visiting family in Hollister.

Leonard Rafael Gonzalez, 25, of Morgan Hill, was arrested by Morgan Hill police with assistance from the Hollister Police Department at 951 Talbot Drive, Police Lt. Joe Sampson said.

Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of rape, domestic abuse and false, imprisonment. He is currently being held without bail in Santa Clara County Jail. If Gonzalez is charged, tried and convicted of the charges, he could be sentenced to as long as 15 years in prison.

Gonzalez is accused of raping a 22-year-old woman in Morgan Hill on Oct. 25. The woman’s name and age were withheld by police.

Investigators said the rape happened shortly after Gonzalez moved into a home with the woman, police said. Investigators said the rape was reported Monday and that further investigation led detectives to Hollister where they learned Gonzalez was with his relatives.

Gonzalez was arrested without incident.

Sampson said the two had an on-again, off-again relationship.
