Backed by a defense that hasn’t given up a point in three consecutive games, the Morgan Hill Pee Wee Raiders ran all over host Berkeley, 24-0, on Sunday at Oakland Technical High School.
Halfback Damon Rodriguez led the rushing brigade with three touchdowns and Ryan Payne added two point-after attempts. A fourth quarter safety capped the scoring.
Cole Davis and Ethan Crawford complimented Rodriguez in churning out rushing yardage.
Berkeley never mounted a scoring threat thanks to fumble recoveries by Alec Havstad and Blake Newquist. The Pee Wee’s continually forced the Bears to turn over the ball on downs where the offense took over.
The Pee Wee’s will look for their fourth win in a row this Sunday against the East Bay West Warriors at the Morgan Hill Sports Complex. Game time is 3 p.m.
Junior Midget
Following on the heels of the Pee Wee’s, the Morgan Hill Junior Midget squad recorded a shutout themselves, beating Berkeley 28-0.
Amassing 192 total yards on offense, the Raiders got three touchdowns from Jacob Ryder, and a host of other ball carriers – led by Eric Payne, Anthony Martinez, Brock Barnes and Cade Hall – pounded the defense for more yardage.
In addition to scoring the other touchdown, Bailey Schroeder threw for 22 yards and added two point-after attempts. Hall helped secure the shutout, recording four sacks, aided by Cole Sanders with three and Seth Hammond with two.
Game time for the Junior Midgets is this Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Sports Complex where they’ll face the East Bay Warriors.
Junior Pee Wee
The Berkeley Bears had too many offensive weapons in their arsenal and handed the Junior Pee Wee’s a 28-0 defeat Sunday in Berkeley.
Despite the powerful Bear offense putting points on the board, halfback Aizon Henry managed to run for 92 yards and quarterback Vinnie LaGatta hooked up with Berrick Benadom for a long passing play.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Raiders forced three turnovers to derail a few Berkeley drives.
The Junior Pee Wee’s look to get on track this Sunday as they host the East Bay Warriors at 1 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Sports Complex.
Tiny Mites
Ties were the order of the day for both Morgan Hill Raider Tiny Mite teams. The Silver team tied East Bay West 18-18 and the Black team followed suit with a 12-12 deadlock against Berkeley.
Seth Hernstedt scored on a 45-yard gallop and Issac Arellano tallied two more touchdowns to pace the Silver team.
Jayden Bejarano and Danny DeHaro led the Black team on two scoring drives of 60 yards each, culminating with two rushing touchdowns by DJ Buenrostro.
On the defensive front, Bryce Luna had eight tackles and a sack for the Black team. Keeping the highly potent Warrior offense in check, Jayden Fraustro, Blaine Barnes, Porter Beagle, Keaton Dietz and Collin Shields-Beall performed well on defense for the Silver squad.
This Sunday the Tiny Mite Black team is at home for a 11:30 a.m. contest against the East Bay Warriors while the Silver team is on the road Saturday.
