A 24-year-old man sustained injuries after he crashed his GMC Suburban into a wall on East Main Avenue Thursday, Sept. 6.

While Morgan Hill Police were investigating a solo car crash Thursday morning on East Main Avenue that trapped a young man inside, they also arrested a curious driver who stopped at the scene for driving under the influence and child endangerment, according to the Morgan Hill Police Department.

The driver in the car accident, Bryce Quibelan, 24, remains in stable condition at a San Jose hospital as of Thursday at 6 p.m., according to MHPD Sgt. Troy Hoefling.

At 10:24 a.m., MHPD responded to a major solo vehicle collision into a wall on East Main Avenue and Montoya Circle. There, they found Quibelan – the only person in the car – trapped inside his blue GMC Suburban. Fire and paramedic personnel extracted Quibelan and administered medical aid. He was then transported to San Jose Regional Hospital.

Police believe the driver crossed two sets of solid double yellow lines, across all lanes of traffic and came to “a violent stop at a sound wall west of Montoya Circle,” according to a press release.

Whether or not Quibelan was driving under the influence, has not yet been ruled out and the crash is still under investigation, according to MHPD.

Several Good Samaritans stopped to help and called 911 for Quibelan, Hoefling said.

Though one passerby’s frame of mind was called into question at the scene.

Michele Ruiz, 47 of Morgan Hill, stopped at the crash scene asking about the status of “the injured driver,” Hoefling said.

After speaking with Ruiz – whose children were in her car – officers determined she was under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested for DUI and child endangerment. She was booked at MHPD and later released with a promise to appear in court.

This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Traffic Cpl. Ray Ramos at Morgan Hill Police Department at 408-779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at 408-947-STOP (7867).

The Morgan Hill Police Department wants to remind all citizens to report intoxicated or impaired drivers by calling 911.
