Daniel Alonso
Daniel Alonso, of Gilroy, took the first step in becoming a Boilermaker by participating in the annual STAR program at Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus.
Summer Transition, Advising and Registration (STAR) is Purdue’s program for new undergraduate students to receive academic advice and create their initial course schedule. Incoming students select their one-day STAR session and come to Purdue’s West Lafayette campus to conduct this and other important business.
Founded in 1869 in West Lafayette, Indiana, the university proudly serves its state as well as the nation and the world. Academically, Purdue’s role as a major research institution is supported by top-ranking disciplines in pharmacy, business, engineering and agriculture.
Nicole Lara
Army Pvt. Nicole B. Lara has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Lara is the daughter of Vanessa Lara of Gilroy and Nick Lara of Hollister. She is a 2011 graduate of Gilroy High School.
Devon Weightman
Air Force Airman Devon M. Weightman graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Weightman is the son of Walter and Jill Weightman of Morgan Hill and a 2009 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School.
