A tight game was decided in the ninth inning as Acorns fell to Leigh 8-5 on Wednesday.
The Acorns had fought back late to tie the game in the sixth inning, forcing extras where Leigh finally came out on top thanks to a pair of singles and an error.
Live Oak falls to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in Mt. Hamilton Division play.
PJ Rochon was hot from the plate for Acorns. Rochon went 3-5 and scored one run. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth and ninth innings.
Matt Remmel got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings. Remmel struck out none, walked one and gave up one hit.
CJ Aichele was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just 4 1/3 innings, walked three, struck out two, and allowed one run.
Acorns jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Acorns got things going when Jacob Ryder singled. Chris Knopf doubled, bringing home Alex Cornejo and Kyle Riveron.
Leigh tied the game in the second on a passed ball that scored Remmel.
The Longhorns took the lead in the third on a Live Oak error. They then went up by three when a lead off error and a hit batter allowed Leigh to eventually bring two runs home.
With the bases loaded after another hit batter, Robbie Hamchuck drove in Parkman when he hit into a double play.
Remmel then scored the team’s fifth run on a wild pitch.
Live Oak got to within one when PJ Rochon and Gavin Vallez both came across the plate to cut the deficit down to 5-4.
Rochon tied the game in the sixth when he led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and eventually to third when Dominic Rodriguez and Jacob Ryder both walked.
Rochon eventually scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Meanwhile, Leigh was completely thwarted from the fifth inning through the eighth as just two hitters reached in that stretch.
Live Oak had runners in scoring position in both the seventh and eighth innings, but couldn’t get the winning run home.
Even in the ninth, Live Oak loaded the bases with one out, but couldn’t capitalize.
The two teams will next meet on Friday in San Jose with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
