A minor earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale shook Morgan Hill about 3:50 p.m. today.

The quake was centered about nine miles north of Morgan Hill and about three and a half miles underground, according to Geophysicist Rafael Abreu of the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor was barely perceptible. A telephone operator at the Morgan Hill Police dispatch center said she didn’t believe one of her co-workers when she told her an earthquake had just happened.

The police had not received any calls for emergencies in the quake’s immediate aftermath.
