Dear Red Phone, our family has always enjoyed the 4th of July
events in Morgan Hill. We’re so thankful to have such dedicated
volunteers and businesses contributing to be sure all of these
events come together. This year, my 6-year-old daughter was so
excited to be in the parade, in Karen Crane’s Patriotic Sing Choir.
My son, age 9, arrived with us early to get a good seat so we could
all see his sister pass by. However, the wait was far longer than
we anticipated. My daughter ended up on the float for over three
hours before their turn arrived and my son suffered mild heat
stroke.

Are there any plans to streamline the parade next year, maybe have floats and bands follow each other less than one minute apart?”
Dear Bummed, Red Phone contacted Bob Hunt, a chairperson for the Independence Day Inc. parade. He said there was obviously a miscommunication in expecting the Patriotic Sing float to move into the parade line much earlier than it was actually scheduled.
Since the Patriotic Sing float is always so well received, they were scheduled to be in the Grand Finale at position No. 185, near other interesting groups such as the Chinese Lion Dancers and the Sweepstakes winning National Rifle Association Members Council ‘Heroes Float.’
“The general procedure is that floats, large trucks, etc., arrive by 8 a.m. in order to park and begin setting-up before crowds of other performers and spectators arrive,” he said.”The performers are to arrive later, according to their position in the parade. All need to be ‘on board’ 30 minutes or so before their unit is scheduled to begin moving forward from their parking area into the forward moving line-up.” Hope that answers your question, good caller. And you are correct, it is a great event with a dedicated group of volunteers. Constructive criticism can only help improve the event. Here’s to looking forward to the 2010 edition.
Red Phone looking into TV guide
“I believe the Red Phone caller was asking whether the printed television guide listings distributed in the Friday paper will include the sub carrier (Eg. 9.1, 9.2, 9.3) broadcast schedules, or just the primary channel schedule. Since this schedule is disributed by the Morgan Hill Times, I presume that it would know whether the content plans to change. Thank you.”
Dear Guide, the television guide inserted into Friday’s Morgan Hill Times does not include the sub carriers, just the primary channel schedules. The Times and Mainstreet Media do not publis the guide. Red Phone will check with the company that publishes the guide to see if any changes are planned. As they say, stay tuned.
