George E. Rowe, Jr. passed away last Thursday at the age of 54. Born in Hollister and lived in San Juan Bautista all his life, he attended San Juan Grammar School and Palma High School.

He served as San Juan Bautista Planning Commissioner for approximately 10 years. He was also San Juan City Clerk and City Treasurer. George was elected as San Juan City Councilmember from 2001 to 2004 and Mayor in 2004.

George worked at Vessey Foods in Hollister, Holex for many years as a security guard, Donna Esther’s as a bartender and Bonfante Gardens in security.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Sheri Rowe of San Juan Bautista, Russ and Mary Ramirez of Las Vegas, Robert and Mary Medina of Garden Valley and his sister and her husband, Bernadette and Ron Vaccarezza of Hollister. He is survived by his nephew and wife, Wess and Andrea Rowe of Hollister, Alex Vaccarezza of Gilroy, Kenny Vaccarezza of Hollister, Amara Ramirez of Las Vegas, Michael Thomas Rowe of Hollister, Katherine and Robert Rowe of San Juan Bautista and many other nieces and nephews.

George loved country music and his dear friends he hung out with at Daisy’s and Donna Esther’s.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosie and George Rowe, Sr., his brothers, John and Tom Rowe and his godson, Matthew Lopez.

Visitation will be today, Tuesday, from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. The funeral services will begin Wednesday morning with the procession leaving the funeral home at 11:30 A.M. and proceeding to Old Mission San Juan Bautista for a funeral Mass commencing at 12 Noon. Graveside services will follow at the San Juan District Cemetery.
