HOLLISTER — Gilroy High will remain a member school of the Tri County Athletic League and Christopher High will join the Monterey Bay Athletic League next season after the Central Coast Section Board of Managers voted in favor of an appeal recommendation Wednesday.
“It’s not what we wanted,” Gilroy athletic director Jack Daley said. “But it is what it is, and we’re gonna work hard and move ahead.”
The Board of Managers approved the recommendation by a 40-1 vote, assistant commissioner Duane Morgan said.
The CCS decision puts an end to months of appeals that began in March after Southern Conference schools voted in favor of placing both Gilroy and Christopher into the MBAL — a move that was shocking to some and eventually began a three-pronged appeal process that concluded last month.
But with principals and athletic directors recommending Gilroy remain in the TCAL for at least two more seasons, while subsequently placing newly opened Christopher into the MBAL, the Southern Conference schools would later vote to approve the recommendation.
Wednesday’s CCS vote was the final vote in the process.
“We’re not protesting it,” Daley said. “We knew it was coming.
“Hopefully the next time around people will recognize the benefits of the equity schedule.”
