San Jose — Frys.com Open Tournament Chairperson and Fry’s Electronics Co-Founder and Executive Vice President, Kathy Kolder announced today that the 2013 Frys.com Open will award $1 million from tournament proceeds to a number of designated charities. The tournament has awarded more than $6 million to charity since inception in 2006.
“The 2013 Frys.com Open was a success and we are pleased knowing tournament proceeds will benefit the lives of others,” Kolder said. “Our thanks go out to our Northern California community, the more than 1,100 dedicated volunteers and our generous sponsors who make this event possible.”
The Frys.com Open’s primary beneficiary is The American Institute of Mathematics (AIM), a Palo Alto-based organization whose mission is to advance mathematical knowledge through collaboration, to broaden participation in mathematics, and to increase the awareness of the contributions of mathematics to society.  Other beneficiaries include The First Tee of Silicon Valley, Northern California Golf Association Foundation, Special Olympics of Northern California, and several additional community charities.
Frys.com Open spokesman Jeff Sanchez said they do not release specifics about how much was donated to each charity nor expand on exactly which charities were given money.
Jimmy Walker, of Boerne, Texas, shot 17-under par to secure his first PGA TOUR victory and the $900,000 winner’s check.  Walker currently leads the 2013-2014 FedExCup standings.
The season-opening Frys.com Open moves to Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa and will be played the week of October 6-12, 2014.
