Pee Wee Raiders 2, Oak Grove Rhinos 0

A well prepared Morgan Hill Pee Wee Raiders squad used defense on Sunday at San Jose City College to defeat the Oak Grove Rhinos 28-0.

The Raiders pounced on three Oak Grove fumbles and recorded a safety, setting up some short scoring drives and two touchdowns.

During the scoreless first quarter, the Rhinos successfully advanced the ball until the Raider’s defense forced a fumble which Mitch Crowley recovered.

Both teams traded three-and-outs to start the second quarter, with the Raiders’ Justin Ide and Tayvury Carrasco ending the Rhino drive with a big sack.

The Raiders took over and went nowhere, but the excitement started when Trevor Bearden’s punt pinned the Rhinos inside their own one-foot line.

On the third play Mitch Crowley wrapped up the Rhino’s quarterback for a safety.

On the ensuing free kick, Joey Rodriguez returned it to the Rhino 42-yard line and the Raiders went to work.

Taylor Turnipseed unleashed a 36-yard pass to Jason Struzik, who was hauled down at the Oak Grove 16-yard line. Linemen Dalton Craig, Jacob Le Don and Josh Araiza provided excellent pass protection on the play.

Two plays later, Turnipseed kept it himself and followed center PJ Marahrens into the end zone on a sneak.

On the ensuing kick off, the Rhinos let the ball roll around and Raiders’ Paul Salinas-Ruiz landed on it to re-gain possession.

Starting inside the Rhino 40-yard line, the Raiders’ turned to Drew Glines to work another short field.

Glines ran for all 36 yards on six carries, capping the drive off with a one-yard touchdown run to give the Raiders’ a 14-0 lead at the half.

The Rhinos started the third quarter with an impressive 13-play drive only to turn it over on downs at the Raiders 28-yard line.

The Raiders then went on a 16-play, 72-yard drive that took 5:30 off the clock.

Drew Glines completed the drive with 7-yard touchdown. Jacob LeDon, Josh Araiza and Justin Ide provided key blocks on the drive.

Two plays after the ensuing kick off, the Rhinos fumbled the ball and Tayvury Carrasco recovered it, giving the Raiders another short field to work with.

The six-play running drive ended with Kyle Quadros scoring his first touchdown of the season from 4-yards out. In a first for the Raiders, Bearden kicked the extra point.

With defense ruling the day for the Raiders, Justin Ide and Tayvury Carrasco shared a sack, Andrew Knight was in on nine tackles, Mitch Crowley was in on eight, and Carrasco and Kyle Quadros were in on seven tackles.
