Hospice of the Valley Director Receives Award
San Jose – Hospice of the Valley (HOV), the first community-based, nonprofit hospice serving Santa Clara County since 1979, has announced that Sally Adelus, executive director of Hospice of the Valley has received the Heart of Hospice Award for her continuous leadership.
The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization presented the Heart of Hospice award at its 22nd Management and Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. held April 20. The award is created to acknowledge outstanding work in the field of end-of-life care and recognizes individuals who have attained repeated outstanding achievements in hospice and have made contributions with impact beyond hospice.
According to Adelus, “Hospice care brings dignity, hope and comfort to millions of patients and their families annually. As leaders it’s our responsibility to ensure we deliver the highest quality of care by providing compassionate palliative, hospice, and grief care to all in need of this vital service. It is an honor to receive this prestigious award in the same year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Medicare Hospice Benefit. I see a bright future as awareness and acceptance of hospice within our communities continues to grow.”
Adelus has more than 20 years of clinical and administrative expertise in pain management, palliative, and hospice care. Her career has been highlighted with significant achievements in pain and research program development, education and healthcare management. Adelus’ previous leadership positions include clinical directorship of two major pain centers in Santa Clara County, involving the development of an innovative and comprehensive chronic pain program. She has been integral in implementing enhanced JCAHO pain standards toward improving hospital-wide policies and staff competencies.
