Pride of Morgan Hill’s 12-year-old girls softball team earned a World Series berth after winning all five of its games in a USSA Tournament in Hayward last weekend.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning in the championship game, Pride scored nine runs, including eight with two outs in a 10-3 win over the San Jose Renegades. In the semifinals, Pride rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to defeat Union City Dynasty 3-2.
Katie Mains struck out 13 batters and allowed just five hits over two games. Ashley Zerr, Anisha Patel, Jenny Obbema and Heather Johnson made outstanding defensive plays over the two-day tournament.
The World Series begins July 22 in Independence, Mo.
