Morgan Hill – In a wild game at Burnett Elementary, the Giants outlasted the Yankees to earn a 17-13 victory in Morgan Hill Pony Baseball Bronco Division action.

The Giants got going early, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. Jordan Santiago provided a key double and Jarrod Cerniglia and Noah Cook each singled. The attack was helped out by five walks.

Santiago also started strong on the mound, allowing one run over three innings, while striking out six.

Four more runs in the third had the Giants comfortably on top.

But in the fourth, the Yankees got patient at the plate and got back in the game, scoring seven runs. Nathaniel Batad and Jason Struzik both delivered RBI singles.

Taylor Pullen then took the mound for the Yankees and pitched three strong innings of relief, allowing two runs and striking out seven. Lucas Cook provided one of those runs when he doubled home his brother Noah.

The Yankees continued to claw back in the late innings. Christian Davies-White doubled and scored on a Steven Marquez single in the fifth. In the sixth, Matthew Bellah walked, Batad singled, Struzik tripled and Pullen and Davies-White both drove in runs while reaching on errors. An RBI single by Marquez made it a one-run game entering the seventh.

Struzik shut down the Giants in the top of the seventh, striking out the side. In the bottom of the inning, the Yankees tied it when Bellah was hit by a pitch, stole two bases and scored on a grounder by Batad.

The Giants finally grabbed the upper hand for good with four runs in the eighth and the Yankees were retired in order in their half of the inning to end the wild game.

Marlins 7, Angels 4

The Angels scored four times in the first inning, but the Marlins pitching shut them down from that point on to earn the Bronco Division victory.

The first-inning rally for the Angels was powered by doubles from Andrew Perez and Tommy Naranjo, and a Ben Nuno single.

Nick Swanson helped start the Marlins comeback. In the first inning, he reached on a fielder’s choice and scored and singled and scored again in the third inning to make it 4-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Trenton Cisewski walked and scored. Isaac Allen followed with a single and Ryan Corvese walked. With one out, Brenden Stocksick smashed a two-run double into the gap in left-center to provide the go-ahead runs.

The Marlins extended the lead when Alex Schnorr drove in Stocksick with a grounder and Conor Havstad executed a squeeze play to score Jacob Fernandez, who had reached on a walk.

Naranjo added another double for the Angels, who also had hits from Bryan Freitas and Robby Yamat. Naranjo pitched three innings, allowing one hit and two runs and striking out four. Yamat allowed one hit while pitching a scoreless inning.

Swanson pitched four innings for the Marlins and had six strikeouts. Jim Hagan got the win in relief, pitching three innings and giving up no runs and just one hit, while striking out six. Swanson, Allen and Havstad combined on a 1-3-2 double play in the third inning to foil an attempted squeeze play.
