A Morgan Hill teenager was flown to the hospital after crashing his vehicle into a tree Thursday afternoon, police said.

Christian Naumann, 16, was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima on Oak Glen Avenue in west Morgan Hill about 11:40 a.m., when the car left the roadway for an unknown reason, California Highway Patrol Officer Jaime Rios said.

The car struck a tree off the side of the road, Rios said. Residents in the area of the accident, which happened west of Llagas Road, helped remove Naumann from the vehicle.

Naumann was flown by helicopter to San Jose Regional Medical Center with complaints of pain to his neck, thigh, hip and shoulder, Rios said. The driver did not remember what happened prior to the accident, indicating a possible head injury.

The Nissan he was driving suffered major damage to the left side, Rios added.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and alcohol and drugs are not suspected as a factor, Rios said. No other vehicles were involved.

Check back for updates on Naumann’s condition.
