School is in full swing at Live Oak High School. On Friday, we had our first rally of the Year. Themed “All The Way” this rally was all about clubs and fall sports. Representatives of each club, from the Broadcasting Club, to the Patriot Club, told students about their club with hopes of recruiting new enthusiasts.
Some of those involved in sports also introduced themselves to the school and announced future games.
This year, for the first time in 25 years, Live Oak has freshmen on its campus. They were given a special welcome at the beginning of the rally. Also introduced were the visitors from Sobrato and San Benito high schools. The many new staff members, including Principal Nick Boden, were given a warm welcome as well.
During the rally, each class was given a chance to show their “nutty” class spirit. Despite attempts from their cheerleaders, the overwhelmed freshmen and sophomore classes were no match to the veteran juniors and seniors. The Senior Class of 2005 though, pulled far ahead as they demonstrated the most audible spirit in the gymnasium.
Promoted in the rally by ASB members was the upcoming Sadie Hawkins Dance. Held at Coyote Ranch, the Sadies is one of Live Oak’s most popular dances. The tradition is that the girls ask the guys for a date and they attend in matching outfits. At the Sadies, the couple is given the chance to get married, take a hay bale ride, and dance the night away. It is a fun event for all grades and I encourage all Live Oak students to go. It’s a great way to start the school year.
Another much anticipated upcoming event is our first home game of the 2004 football season. Acorn fans … we need you to come out on Friday, Sept. 10th at 7pm and support our boys as they attempt to defeat Alvarez and go “All The Way.”
