The Morgan Hill Raiders Pop Warner Football program kicked off its 2004 season with a Jamboree Day hosting six games at Britton Middle School. More than 1,000 excited fans attended the games.
This year MHPW is fielding seven seven football teams and five cheer squads totaling 315 children. Over 150 adult volunteers perform the roles of administrators and coaches for the program and dedicate hundreds of hours to the success of the program.
We would like to thank the Morgan Hill School District for allowing Pop Warner to utilize the Britton field for our home games, and in particular Peter McKenna, district facilities groundskeeper, and his staff for all the cooperation our program has received. Heartfelt special thanks to the 20 plus concerned and dedicated individuals who volunteered to fill holes, remove rocks from the track, rake the grass and prepare the field for games.
Without them this weekend could not have happened. You can be assured that the concept of community in Morgan Hill was well represented that day.
Thank you to the sponsors of our program. Rebekah’s Children’s Services, the Morgan Hill Community Foundation, and private donors for sponsoring registration fees for our children, David Dworkin of the Holiday Inn Express for donating the use of his facilities to the league, Norcal South County Recycling for donating the dumpster and services, Mike and Anna Stenshoel and family for generous donations, Rina Esquivel-Tanchico of Semiconductor Tooling Services, Chuck and Natalie Ricketts, Santa Clara Valley Corp., Victor at Mountain Mike’s Pizza, The Print Shop, Dennis Dillard of Double D’s and to Craig and Linda Connelly of the Santa Clara Lions Pop Warner program for donating the use of their portable scoreboard. All of these contributions have made our program a success.
A very special thanks to Bob Greisinger of RGW who donated the manpower and heavy equipment for grading, watering and rolling of the track to smooth, create drainage, scrape all the weeds, and improve the appearance of Britton for our Pop Warner program and the district. Gene Marks Heavy Equipment out of Gilroy with Enrique worked over 12 straight hours grading and rolling the track. And special thanks to Tim DeCarlo who had the backstop removed and all the bleachers moved in preparation for games.
A very big thank you to our dedicated board members who manned the gates, barbecued all day, worked in the Snack Shack, emptied the trash cans and performed crowd control. Special thanks to Dennis Dillard and his “crew” for assembling our portable goalposts and providing support to our program, Bill Van Aken for barbecuing day, Steve Sorci, Mark Ramirez and Bill Singleton for crowd control and prepping the teams to take the field, and Will Niehaus and Don Clare for field setup and tear down. At the end of the day, the Britton field looked absolutely clean and you couldn’t even tell we were there with more than 1,000 people.Thank you to all of the wonderful people who made this happen. I love Morgan Hill.
