showing is sponsored by the Poppy Jasper Film Festival, holding its
first fundraising event of the year a
t the historic Granada Theater downtown.
The 1950’s will return Saturday night to downtown Morgan Hill with a special one-time only showing of the smash musical film “Grease,” starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
The exclusive showing is sponsored by the Poppy Jasper Film Festival, holding its first fundraising event of the year at the historic Granada Theater downtown.
Since “Grease” is also a perfect “date movie” – fine for teens and adults alike – organizers expect the theater to be packed with ducktail hair, poodle skirts and saddle shoes, plus some regular folks dressed in 2004 garb. Organizers say they expect a great turnout.
The Granada is getting a much-needed cleaning by Acme Building Maintenance, whose owner Richard Sanchez is contributing the work. Paul Gunsky, president of Cinelux Theatres, including the just re-opened 8-screen theaters in Tennant Station, has donated the 35mm movie for the affair.
Proceeds from the evening’s events will help sponsor Morgan Hill’s first film festival scheduled for November.
Tickets are $15 at the door and include admission, drink and snacks. Doors open at 7 p.m. With only 250 seats, tickets are limited so come early.
PJFF’s second event of the summer will be a showing of “Casablanca” on Aug. 21.
The Poppy Jasper Film Festival’s mission is to promote emerging voices and an awareness of the film arts in the California community. The inaugural festival will showcase short films of 30-minutes or less and take place Nov.12-14. PJFF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which makes clear donations tax-deductible.
